Meet my cat, Grace. She's 13 today! And still very fond of paper grocery sacks.
I finished the Cabled Footies yesterday, but instead of cracking straight on with the second Hufflepuff sock, I found myself knitting a square for the Rebuilding Greensburg project. I love how the crafting community always manages to come together to help people who have been through a terrible tragedy. Kay made an excellent point in her Mother's Day post; when you make a blanket, or a square for a blanket, or a scarf, or something, for someone who is simply going through hell, sometimes you think, "Right, like a stupid blanket is going to make everything better." But, as Kay and her Mug of Human Gestures of Kindness point out, it does make a difference. Doing something concrete to show you care makes a difference. And when a lot of people care, a lot, then a lot of blankets can be made for people who need them, and a lot of cold people can be clothed.
The links I've left are only the beginning. This doesn't even crack the surface of all the good being done by the crafters of the world. Thank you, thank you, to everyone - crafter or not - who has done something to help someone in need. John Lennon said it best: better recognize your brother is everyone you meet!
But then, John Lennon said everything best.
Did all this start with my cat? I think it did. (You can make something for animals in need too, by the way.) Happy birthday, Gracie Boo!
And now for the Top Five TV shows!
1. As Time Goes By. Jean and Lionel, still crazy after all these years. (Sometimes literally.)
2. The Odd Couple. I may have a small Oscar-and-Felix obsession. I love these guys!
3. The Simpsons. (Link plays the theme song; watch out if you're at work!) You should hear the Simpsons quotes fly when my brother and I get together - we can have a whole conversation consisting of things that the Simpsons said first. I'm the first to admit that there have been a few bombs, but honestly, this show has been shockingly consistent in its brilliance over the years. Y'all are too funny.
4. Seinfeld. You should hear the Seinfeld quotes fly when my mother and I get together. Hee! Can I just say: Best. Sitcom. Ensemble. Ever.
5. Father Ted. You can't believe how much trouble three priests and their housekeeper can get into on a small Irish island.

Happy Birthday, Gracie! I still remember when you couldn't find your way out of your paper bag!
Thanks so much for this touching post about giving what you can. The cash donations are helping the tornado victims a lot right now but in the long run they still won't have a lot. It takes a lifetime to build what they lost - it won't be back in the snap of a finger and by getting a new couch and some dishes. Thank you so very much for helping with the afghan project and posting about it. :)
