(It is so a musical reference..."Tempted," anyone?)
Yes, I still have only one Dublin Bay sock...those of you who recall the Jaywalker episode are not surprised by this. And those of you who missed the Jaywalker episode are just lucky. But I turned the heel on Dublin Bay #2 this morning, so all is not lost!
Saturday afternoon's mail brought a lovely package from Crazy Aunt Purl - the knitting books I won have arrived! Thank you, Laurie!
Annie Modesitt's "Romantic Hand Knits" is marvelous; I intend to knit every single thing in the Accessories section. I can't help noticing that three of my favorite patterns are named after Bette Davis movies..."Now, Voyager" is a gorgeous long flowing skirt with embroidery along the bottom, "All About Eve" is a wrap skirt knit with ribbon yarn, and "Dark Victory" is the most beautiful sweater in the book. Of course, Bette rocked. (I don't think she'd mind me saying so.)
"The Yarn Girls' Guide to Knits for All Seasons" is a fun read, with really cute patterns, and two bags which may enter the Project Queue soon - especially "Becoming the Bag Lady," a great cabled purse pattern. I love cables. I love purses. It's right up my alley. "The Separation Sweater" is adorable, though I'll have to engage in Mathematics to bring it up to my size, but I can do that. If the sweater is cute enough, I can do that.
But before I start any of that, I really must finish my sock, and also decide what I'm going to make for an intelligent and good-looking young couple of my acquaintance who are getting married soon.
Dear Intelligent and Good-Looking Young Couple: you will be very happy to hear that El Fuego talked me out of knitting you Wedding Socks. True story.

I'm totally jealous of your blog. I'm currently hard at work (I almost put that in quotation marks) on a pair of petticoat trousers so I can play a Revolutionary War sailor. They'd also work for being a pirate at Blackbeard Days.
But the pattern instructions were obviously translated from some language that no one speaks anymore ("Be sure to take and have a smart grounding before stitching around the wrong-side grommet with a modified hornet stitch") and needles are awfully pointy and sharp. Big stumpy hands run in my family, as I'm sure you're aware. But at least none of my cats have eaten a needle.
Yet.
Also, thanks for the offer of wedding socks, which I find totally cool. Mostly because my house is basically the Little Round Top of Sockdom, where socks go to die and never return.
Socks dying due to miniball fire?!?
Geez...rough house you have.
Every time I see "Foot without a Sock" I hear "Eyes without a Face." Weird huh?
Oooh, what song will be next?
