This, and its mate once I knit it, will be going to Afghans for Afghans' current campaign. I was planning to knit some mittens and socks for A4A once Ravelympics was over, but you know, the opportunity to start early presented itself.
This mitten was also good knitting for our trip to King's Island on Friday - it was the kids' first trip to an amusement park, and it was a blast! (I promise I only knit in the car on the way there.) Our whole family rode The Beast, which still stuns me just a little bit. Horatio studied rollercoasters in a physics class last year, and I knew he was looking forward to riding The Beast, but Miss Dashwood surprised me no end. She's 8 years old, and just barely taller than the minimum height requirement for The Beast, and she just hopped right on. She had no fear, which leaves me with a strange combination of pride and nausea. (The Beast, by the way, is the longest all-wood rollercoaster in the world, and it is a doozy. It was fun, it was fast, it was the second rollercoaster either of my kids had ever been on - once they decided to get on a rollercoaster, y'all, there was no foolin' around. They went for the famously fast and scary rollercoaster. I'm so proud! And a little nauseous.)
We did a lot more than just ride The Beast, but that seems to be the thing that's sticking with me. And we all agreed that next time, we're going to bring towels and ride Congo Falls. If we're already planning our next visit, it must have been fun!
Anyway, I did no knitting on Dainty Bess Friday, and only one pattern repeat yesterday, but I expect to get back on track today...with a little mitten-knitting thrown in for good measure!

I love the Beast! Do they still have the creepy sign, "The Beast will eat your glasses?" Best time I ever rode it was at dusk, right before the fireworks, with my glasses in my jacket pocket. Couldn't quite see where we were going or when we'd hit that double helix turn.
Oh, the memories!!
