*sigh*

I'm starting to think there's a curse on these socks.

The best thing I can say about last night's knittin' session: I did not go completely insane and eat a whole ball of superwash wool.

Last night, I was almost done with the gusset, la la la almost done with my least favorite bit of the sock hurray, when I noticed...a mistake. A whopping great mistake. Way back, in the first round of the gusset, I did a double decrease in the wrong place. (For those of you who haven't knit a Jaywalker, the double decrease makes one of the points in the zigzag pattern. Having the double decrease in the wrong place ruins the nice linear look of the sock.) I thought very seriously about leaving it, but really, it had to be fixed. It looked awful. So I sighed with the weight of the world, pulled out the needles and ripped back to the beginning of the gusset, and while muscling the stitches back onto the needles, I came very, very, perilously close to dropping a couple of stitches in the leg portion of the sock, and I knew if I wasn't able to get them properly back onto the needles, I'd have to rip back the entire heel. (This is where the swearing began, speaking of curses.) Fortunately, I did get everything back on the needles without dropping a big ladder into the leg, and all was well, except for the throbbing vein in my forehead.

Oh, all right, the best thing I can say about last night's knittin' session is that all was well in the end. But it is good that I didn't go completely insane and etc.

See that blotch of dark blue right there? It wasn't there before I pulled back and fixed the mistake. Somehow, there was no pooling the first time I knit it, and then there was pooling the second time I knit it. I think it's some kind of Knitting Black Hole, sucking both the life and the pattern out of these socks.

Does anyone know how to remove a curse from a pair of socks? Should I burn my double-points at midnight of a full moon, or something? Despite all the trouble, I like these socks. I don't want them to be cursed. I shall start by sending them Good Vibes, and not swearing at them anymore.
