It's blocking. (Better picture tomorrow.) Hazel is keeping a very close eye on it. She has been warned of the dire consequences should she choose to investigate with a little claw, and is being a good girl.
The garter stitch ruffle turned out beautifully, as did the whole shawl, really. My one and only regret is not putting a few rows of garter stitch along the top of the shawl before I bound off...the top is a little curly. (Memo to Crafty Peach: stocking stitch curls. No, really!) Still, that bit will mostly be under my hair, or held in place by my shawl pin, so I think it's going to be all right. If it drives me crazy, I can always add on some garter stitch across the top later.
The Important Details: Abracapocus! is based on Emilee Mooney's marvelous Bat Shawl pattern; I added a sixth row of bats and changed the border. I used two hanks of Knitpicks Shadow in Midnight Heather, with a ball about the size of a plum left over, and 4mm needles. I'll be wearing this shawl when I deliver snacks to the Halloween party in my daughter's classroom tomorrow! And also when I hand out candy Saturday night, if it's not pouring down rain, which is what they're calling for right now. No matter. Nothing will spoil the heady exhilaration of having finished my Abracapocus! in time for Halloween!
Not that I intend to put it away just because Halloween is over. This shawl is most excellent, and appropriate for most occasions, as long as I don't mind people thinking I'm...well...batty.
