The July garden report

My veg garden is a sorry sight this year. Last year I lost the tomatoes entirely to something El Fuego called The Blight; this year The Blight doesn't seem to be making an appearance, but the plants look spindly and weak all the same, and they're just not bearing much fruit. Still, I thought I was going to have sufficient tomatoes for tonight's BLT's...

Ha! No. There were three of these: one was half this size, and the other had a big bite taken out of it. I suspect a local squirrel, given the size of the bite mark. (To its credit, this tomato is supposed to be yellow. I forget what it's called, but I'm sure I planted some yellow and some red this year.) Oh, and we're still having BLT's for dinner; I just paid a visit to my old friend Trader Joe. He had some nice-looking maters.

My basil and mint are already dead - the basil of some kind of mildew or fungus or something (Basil Blight?), and the mint from heat and underwatering, the poor thing. The rest of my herb garden looks good, though, and so do my jalapeno plants. Check these babies out!

And here's what looks best this year...

The garlic. My Lord, would you look at the garlic. It's beautiful, and it smells divine. This is our first time growing garlic, but I don't believe it will be the last.
