Mantyke Unbound

In April, I finished a long-term project - the Mantyke shawl, so named because it looked like a manta ray while it was blocking.

It looked like that because I had done the bind-off too tightly. I knew it. Chances are you knew it. I lied and said I liked it that way, mostly because the thought of unraveling the bind-off and doing it again made me want to cry.

This morning, I finally admitted that I didn't like it, and decided I should do something about it. Before I could change my mind I sat down with a long circular needle, unraveled the bind-off and the three rows before it (had to unravel that third row because of stitch-droppage), muscled all the stitches onto the needle, knit one row, and bound off again. This time I used Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off. It really is surprisingly stretchy. It's brilliant. Just look what it did for old Mantyke.

Much, much better. Definitely easier to wear; I was wearing it around the house this morning, which can only mean the air conditioning has been fixed, glory hallelujah. (The malfunctioning A/C was fully half my problem on Friday.) It could probably use a good blocking, and given my track record, we can expect that to happen around November. Still: much better.

I've already decided what my next shawl project is going to be, although before I cast on I'm going to finish one (1) pair of socks and one (1) scarf, in an attempt to keep things from going totally insane over here. Oh, by the way, I cast on a scarf the other night.

It's a Moon River scarf, but because of the color of the yarn I'm naming mine after a different song - Copperline. It's a fun pattern, and really easy to get into the rhythm of it.
