OH NO

I have been totally sidetracked. By what? You name it. This extremely colorful sock, cross stitch, a complete and utter sea change in the plot of one of my novels, a guitar-related epiphany (which is liable to get a whole post of its own soon), stash diving, neurotic list-making...but since I have a picture of the extremely colorful sock, I'll talk about that.

This is KnitPicks Stroll (as it so frequently is) in Paisley Multi. These will be Miss Dashwood's socks, and when I cast on yesterday I discovered that the purple was pooling. A lot. I mean a lot. I asked Miss Dashwood if she minded it, and she sort of made a face and said that if I could make it stop pooling, she might like it better.

So I frogged it, and started experimenting with patterns that might break up the pooling. I consulted Ravelry's pattern database. I changed needle size, I tried casting on a different number of stitches - nothing worked, the purple was determined to be all on one side of the sock. It got so crazy that the beginning of the skein (the part I kept casting on and then pulling back again) was starting to pill, so I just cut it off and threw it away. And then I cast on again, and tried Sockbug's Lava Flow pattern.

This looked promising. The slipped stitches broke up the pooling very nicely, Miss Dashwood announced that she liked it - and I had a complete brain cloud and pulled the needles out and started ripping the sock back. "What are you doing?" Miss D demanded, as well she should.

"Um...I don't know," I admitted. "I think I just got used to destroying anything I started with this yarn. Okay, now let's see if I can get this back on the needles!"

Fortunately, I did, and the sock is well on its way. This is good; maybe I'll actually finish something. Or maybe I'll just continue flitting back and forth between the eleventy-eight projects I already have in progress, and my novel, and my guitar.

I'm going to need some coffee.
