Random Tuesday

1. Have y'all seen "Super 8"? Oh my God. GO. GO RIGHT NOW. I saw it Sunday afternoon, and my brain is still exploding with how amazing this movie is. It's frightening and funny and touching and thought-provoking and unbelievably well-done in all ways. Brilliant.

2. Almost done with the Age of Brass and Steam kerchief. There was some consternation this morning when it turned out I had dropped two yarn-overs, and didn't notice right away because yarn-overs don't unravel like a proper dropped stitch, so it didn't look like a knitting tragedy. But it sort of was. Anyway, I bravely unknit a row and a half, replaced the yarn-overs (yarns-over? Doesn't really look right either way), and carried on. Three rows to go!

3. Speaking of knitting tragedies: this is what I get for buying yarn that smells like food.

I left a lovely ball of Sugar & Cream Scents (camomile flavor) on the coffee table when we went to the grocery store this weekend, and came back to find that Fred enjoys camomile. A lot. It wasn't a terrible tragedy; most of the yarn was salvageable. And Fred is cute.

4. At the grocery store, I found this.

Cucumber soda! It's surprisingly good. It really does taste like a cucumber, and I had my doubts about that in soda form, but I liked it.

5. On our way out of the grocery store, we saw an Aston Martin Vantage in the parking lot. I gushed a little bit, because it was absolutely gorgeous, I love an Aston Martin, and how often do you see one in the grocery store parking lot in the middle of Ohio?? "Never" is the correct answer. So there I was, really going on about this beautiful car as I walked past it, and I turned around to walk backwards so I wouldn't have to stop looking at it, and - it was occupied. Dude was sitting behind the steering wheel with his window open, and looking at me like I was slap out of my mind. (What? Did he not know he was in one of the best-looking cars ever made?) So I laughed and said, "Sorry, just admiring your car - very nice" and he sort of waved, and I started walking forwards again. I felt a bit dopey, but I think I'm completely redeemed by my excellent taste in motor vehicles.

6. My trips to the grocery store are not usually NEARLY this interesting.

7. I've dropped Abigail like a hot rock. It's very pretty, and turning out well, but I still have that nagging concern in the back of my head that I haven't got enough yarn for both mitts. Oh well - I really am going to finish the first one, and then I'll probably have to renew the library book when I weigh the mitt and then weigh the yarn and discover that I DO have enough for the second mitt!
