Grabbing the reins

I made a list last night. It was a scrupulously honest list of all the knit and crochet projects that are technically in progress right now, including hibernating projects, and things that "don't count." Haha! For the purposes of this list, they all count. Here it is.

Sokath socks
Christmas in Tallinn
Matilda
Invisibility Shawl
Lavalette
Fluted Rib scarf
Bandanna Cowl
Tubeline Scarf
Alpaca gloves
Dye Job
Koopa Village Blanket
Dishcloth
Facecloth
Seascape
Jazz socklets

Then I put the list aside for the evening, and took a second look at it - well, right now, when I typed it out. Here are my initial, honest-to-god, real-time reactions.

1. How did this happen?
2. Haha. Never mind, I know how it happened.
3. I don't even want the Bandanna Cowl. I mean, it's a good-looking cowl, but Bandanna was not exactly at the top of my must-have list. Why did I cast it on? Because I owned yarn of the right weight and needles of the right size? Sadly, I think that's it. It has to be said I'm not committed to this project, so I'm frogging it.
4. Dishcloth? I've got a dishcloth sitting around on the needles, unfinished? Do you know how quickly I can whip out a dishcloth? I am the queen of dishcloths. (No, that would be Kay. I'll be the duchess of dishcloths.) Finish that thing. Right now.
5. Facecloth? (See "dishcloth," above. Considering a facecloth is really just a dishcloth in softer, more skin-friendly cotton.)
6. I can't for the life of me figure out why I abandoned the Jazz socklets. It's not even a full sock - they're ankle socks, and one of them is finished. It's, like, half a sock.
7. Sokath, Lavalette, Fluted Rib, Tubeline - I've been working on all of these lately. (Well, not including when I hurt my back and worked on nothing at all.) I'm not really concerned about them, as they're bound to be normal projects with normal finishing times.
8. The Christmas stocking and Invisibility Shawl show signs of turning into the next Matilda.
9. Matilda shows signs of turning into the next Seascape.
10. Oy, Seascape. Three years ago I cast it on. It's pretty ... someday I'll pull it out of the closet and finish it.
11. Koopa Village Blanket. I started that in Michigan. In 2004. Two thousand four. For heaven's sake.
12. Alpaca glove is still sitting here with 1/3 of a cuff knit. I feel strangely unworried about it.
13. Dye Job was always kind of a therapeutic project, for working on when I was tired or grumpy. That said - it's garter stitch strips, to be sewn into a blanket if they're ever finished. And I don't think there's much left. Maybe I ought to get on with it.
