I really, really want to cast on. Look, I've got the wool, and I printed out the pattern. I'm all set.
Except that I think I'm going to need size 7 needles, and all my 7's are in use. Okay, the 16" circular is free, but can't you just see me trying to knit a cardigan on a 16" circular needle? I can't even use it to check my gauge, because I'd rather check my gauge on the needles I'm actually going to knit the sweater with. You know, provided I get the correct gauge. I suppose I could check with my 8's first; there's no guarantee I'd get gauge with the 7's. All I know is, I got five and a half stitches to the inch with my 6's, and I need 5 stitches to the inch. The 7's seem like the next logical step.
My Wool Addict's Shawl is on the longer (40" or whatever) circular, and Grandma Twombly's Scarf is on the straights, and it's probably just a wild dream that Tappan Zee would fit on the straights anyway. What I really need is the 40" or whatever circular. There's only one thing to do...I'm going to have to finish up that shawl, and quick, too.
No, no - don't remind me that the 40" or whatever needle is part of my interchangeable circular set, and that all I really have to do is remove the needle tips and attach them to a new cord and I'll be off and running with Tappan Zee. Whatever you do, don't remind me. Really, the better idea is to finish the shawl, and then I'll have a truly free needle and a clear conscience, and a lovely shawl to wear while I check my gauge and cast on.
There, that's settled! Whew. I need a creme egg.
