The Scarf with No Name, plus a snazzy free pattern!

The chaos continues. Yesterday I had this great idea for a scarf, and dropped everything and went to the stash. I knew exactly which yarn I wanted, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it, and all I had to do was grab a crochet hook and figure out how long my starting chain needed to be.

And here it is.

I love it! It's exactly what I was picturing when I started out yesterday. It doesn't have a name yet, though. I'm trying to stay away from anything obvious like "Arrow" or "Pointy Scarf," but I haven't come up with anything I like yet. (Update! It's called "Crazy," as explained in the October 1 post.) I'll keep thinking about it, and in the meantime, here's how I did it...

-> Two skeins of worsted-weight yarn, different but harmonious colors, we'll call them A and B, just for fun. (I used Wool-Ease in Purple and Mushroom.)
-> I/9 crochet hook (5.5mm)

With A, chain 24.

Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 8 ch, skip 2 ch, dc in each of next 8 ch, 2 dc in next ch, dc in last ch - 22dc.

Row 2: ch 3, turn (turning ch counts as first dc now and throughout). 2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 8 dc, skip 2 dc, dc in each of next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in top of turning ch - 22 dc.

Repeat Row 2 four more times, then break yarn and switch to color B.

Stitch Row 2 six times with color B, then break yarn and switch back to color A.

Continue, switching between colors every six rows, for as long as you darn well like. Mine has 17 blocks, beginning and ending with purple, and is 72" long and 6" wide. (Length is not including the tassels.) Decorate the three pointy ends however you like - tassels? Pom-poms? Fringe? Something completely different? Go crazy. I'm quite fond of the tassels myself.

When I read your post title I immediately started singing about A Horse With No Name . . . . so what about Desert Rain, or Desert Sun, or America? Or Horse?
:) Nice scarf!
