The Return of Mr. Goomba

There's something new in the UFO Count: Merletto Mitts. Fingerless mitt season is on its way, and I just don't have enough of them, and these are so pretty and lacy. Picture soon!

I've knit two mittens for Afghans for Afghans...now they each need a mate, because they're not the same size. (It's a long story.)

Okay, okay, Mr. Goomba is making elaborate throat-clearing noises offstage...here he is, modeling Dainty Bess. And he really thinks I should knit more scarves, or else let him branch out into sock-modeling. That would be very interesting, as his feet are stubby in the extreme. He's a great scarf model, though, don't you think? Check him out.

The details: Dainty Bess was knit on 3.75mm needles with one skein of KnitPicks Shadow, in the sadly-discontinued Grape Jelly colorway. She's part of the Elizabeth I scarf collection, also available from KnitPicks. The first three or four pattern repeats had me sweating nervously and thinking I'd bitten off more than I could chew, but it wasn't long before I really started to enjoy it. It's a great pattern, I loved knitting it, and I love how it looks now that it's done.

Also, I've discovered the most important tool for lace-knitting: the Post-It note. Use that little sticky-note to mark which line of the pattern you're on, and you'll never get lost. Believe me, if it keeps me from losing my place, it will keep anyone from losing their place! I have a talent for losing my place. I am frequently heard to mutter, "Where the hell am I?" - while I'm knitting, while I'm cooking, while I'm looking for my car in the parking lot, etc. Maybe I need Post-Its for my cookbooks as well, and a big flag on a suction cup for my car.

ROTFL! Oh I wish I could see a car with one of those on... ;-)
Great scarf.
