Just a little cheer in honor of Horatio's freshly-cast-off School Spirit socks.
I've always put a short-row heel into socks of this sort, but these look so great that I may have to reconsider that policy. This is a plain-vanilla sock knit in Horatio's school colors - the yarn is KnitPicks Stroll in Sapphire Heather and Dove Heather, 2.75mm needles as usual. Frankly, I can't get over them. They're really good-looking socks.
Horatio is already on the list for another pair of socks: he's in concert band at school, and the director recently announced the dress code for concerts, which includes black socks for the gentlemen. Horatio wasn't altogether happy about the sock requirement - dress socks are uncomfortable, he didn't want to wear dress socks - so I sez to him I sez, "I could knit you a pair. I even have black sock yarn in my stash."
The look on his face was priceless; it was as if he had, until that moment, forgotten that his mother knits socks. He said, "Well...yeah! That'd be great! If you don't mind." And I said, "Have you met me? I don't mind."
I've dug out the appropriate yarn, found a pattern (I didn't run it by Horatio, but I think he'll like it), thought of a name for the socks, and I'm going to cast on today. There's a doctor's appointment this afternoon (a regular checkup, nobody's ill, thank goodness) and I need a sock to knit in the waiting room!
