Slight setbacks.

Monday night, I asked Horatio to try on his sock to see if it was time to knit the toe yet, and...the heel didn't fit properly. I'd made a short-row heel, because that's the easiest way to make a sock with the heel a different color than the leg and foot, but it really didn't sit right on the kid's actual heel. So, Tuesday morning, I pulled the sock back to before the heel, and reknit it with a heel flap and gusset.

This should be much better, and I have to admit it looks nicer than it did with the short-row heel! I'm certainly not going to be finished by Friday (er, tomorrow), though. That's okay - that was a self-imposed deadline anyway, and you know how I am with those. Horatio's perfectly laid-back about the whole thing, he said whenever I finish them is fine with him. I'm shooting for next Friday. The one after tomorrow.

Matilda, though. Oh, dear Matilda. Yesterday afternoon I was knitting happily along - and then I dropped a stitch. And it fell down through a lacy bit. And I thought I had fixed it, thought I had gotten all the stitches and yarn-overs and what have you back into the right places, but two rows later realized that everything was off by a stitch. I had to pull back. Ten rows. Ten long, lacy rows. And then I reknit it up to the end of the fourth pattern repeat...which is where it had been when I picked it up so many hours before. I'd done all that work, but after seven hours, I had, technically, gotten nowhere. (I didn't spend the whole seven hours messing about with Matilda, of course. That's just how much time elapsed between Starting To Knit and Finally Sorted Out.)

Matilda is taking a brief vacation. I cast on a hat.
