I'm so busy casting on, I don't have time to knit!

I just learned how to do an Italian tubular cast-on and it is the coolest thing I have ever done with yarn.

I was thinking about starting a pair of Endpaper Mitts, and the designer recommends using an Italian tubular cast-on, which I didn't know how to do, so I Googled it to see how it's done but in the back of my head I was thinking I'd just use my usual long-tail cast-on in the end anyway. But when I found this great tutorial by Francesca, the one I linked to up there, you really should go see it and make sure to watch the video at the end, I decided to give it a try and it is so cool. I'll have to try it five or six more times, just to make sure I've got the hang of it, and then Endpaper Mitts here I come!

(Part of me thinks I'm getting way too excited over learning a new cast-on. But the rest of me thinks that part should shut up, because I have pointy sticks and I'm not afraid to use 'em, and also? It's so cool. But maybe I could stand to get out of the house for a little bit. Right after I do a little more casting on.)

The process looks like an excursion into hell for yours truly (I prefer working in leather and felt), but if it makes for anything as pretty as these other photos you've posted....(hint hint)
